Dining room was clean and guests were comfortably spaced around the dining room. Live piano with guitar music was present during our meal - may have been a little too. Our reservation was taken politely over the telephone and our special request was honored without issue. No second cup of coffee, but a $90.00 bill was promptly presented. Asked for a box and said we would take it home and cook it ourself. Came out again a few minutes later still the same, no warmer, no more done, the vegetable was cooler, and the potato wouldn’t even, melt the butter they finally brought. The two carrots and piece pf asparagus (chef’s vegetable) were room temperature and the potato was lukewarm and had no butter or sour cream.Īgain, we flagged down the waitress and sent it back to have it all heated. When the steak that was ordered medium with a heavy char on the outside came, it had no char, was medium rare and cold. Instead of a side salad, we got a large bowl of salad,no plates and she just set it in the middle of the table and turned to leave until we pointed out that we needed plates. By now we have already been here an hour. We asked if we would be getting our salad before the steak so she seemed surprised, but went back to get it. The waitress finally brought my wine, never brought my husband the cup pf coffee he ordered when we ordered our food. Ordered a $40.00 steak to share with a baked potato and “chef’s vegetable”. I wanted a second glass of wine, but had to flag down the waitress for this and to take our order. The bruschetta came, still no plate for the appetizer. There were no bread plates, but it was just the two of. We ordered drinks and bruschetta as an appetizer. We got bread, oil to dip in, and water fairly quickly. We were seated in “Benny’s” it was that, the bar or outside. Got there and the first disappointment was that the dining room is not open during the week now. had music Tuesday through Friday evening. The website says the main dining room (where we wanted to eat because it is a beautiful room). Haven’t been in a while since the last time was not a good experience, but it was a while ago. Might be the best Italian in Rockford and I’ll explore more the next time in town. Our server was very attentive and polite. The bar scene was pretty lively and this was the middle of the week. I went with a cheese tortellini with a tomato cream sauce which I enjoyed. For mains, I actually would have liked more pasta dish options. The calamari was just ok, but the mozzarella was very good. We split a couple apps, the calamari and the mozzarella. Same menu for both with deferent atmospheres. We asked the server what the deal was and he explained they expanded the casual side which used to have a private room and then Francesco’s is the more formal dining side. One is Francesco’s and one is Bennys, the second being the more casual of the 2. It was a little confusing when we entered as there were 2 separate dining areas. I was in town on business and went with a colleague.
